yeah, the person on the other end will recive two successive texts... or on some phones, they are merged togteher as one.. so the recipient can view it as one long text. But you are charged for TWO texts

You need to go into messaging accounts and click on the sms tab then check that the character set selected is USC2 and not 7bit.
This will allow you to send a text upto 160 characters in length as one.
Good Luck!!

Rather the opposite:
7-bit: 160 chars
UCS-2: 70 chars

Yhe, that didnt make any difference!
Example - I have 60 characters used, but it says "60/2" and when i click send it says it will be sent as two?

This happens to me every now and then, and only when I use handwriting recognition to create the message. Not sure what the reason for it is bu in my experience it occurs when I'm writing the letter 'r'. Usually I go back and rewrite all 'r's and all spaces, and once the problem one is removed the message reverts back to being a single message. Hope that helps.

Thanks Ruzhyo,
Sounds exactly like my problem - I hadn't traced it back to the letter "r" yet though but I'll check it out next time it happens.
Thanks again
Jon

The problem seems to happen to me if I put a "tab" in instead of a space. It can be hard to detect, but yes, using hand writing seems to cause it, or pressing the red button then the space.
That's all it is anyway, there's nothing wrong with your phone.

FWIW, I experience the same problem occasionally when I'm using my external BT keyboard.
