* Sponsered silence in college.
* Sponsored fancy dress.
* Making cakes and cookies and sell in college.
* Sell some stuff on ebay.
* Ask for donations from friends and family.

These are lame suggestions but i cannot really think of anything else.

Good Luck!!!

You say you're going to India for aid work. I presume you are in some way affiliated with or working in conjunction with an aid agency (Red Cross, Medecin sans frontieres, UNICEF etc.). Contact your local newspaper and tell them about your trip, emphasising the aid aspect and mentioning the organisation you are affiliated with. Tell them that you are looking for sponsorship, and ask them whether they would be prepared to do a small piece on you setting off on your trip, with the help of a local company etc. (most local newspapers would be happy to cover a local 'human interest' story. Not a lot of work in it for them, and it fills column space).

Next step is to write a letter to local companies telling them that you are going to India to provide aid. Tell them that you are working with "X" aid organisation. Then you can tell them that you have spoken with the local paper, and that they have shown interest in doing a piece on e.g. "...local company sponsors local girl to go to India to provide aid...". The company gets some cheap publicity by giving you some money, the newspaper gets a cheap column filler and you fund your trip. Everyone is happy.

I should think a letter or telephone call to the paper would take 10 mins. A letter to local companies, including copying and mailing should take a morning or afternoon, so not too time-consuming.
