Max speed is about 20k/s. If you have a 3G enabled phone, you can get a 300k internet connection.

here is a page I often quote for questions like this

its quite informative about the speed of various communication methods and goes on to explain different GPRS classes and how the up-stream and down-stream slots that the device supports can affect its GPRS performance

Just out of curiosity, is there any site that allows you to check the connection speed? I mean the connection in use, not the theoretical speed that the phone is capable of. Thanks. This message was posted from a Nokia

I would'nt think so, how ever there might be a program you can install, that would monitor the speeds.

Hmm... Does anyone know what that program might be? I'd be glad to know if there's something similar for my computer as well. Sorry if i'm going a little off-topic.

I use my gprs connection to browse on the pc. I have this small program called Netmeter running on the taskbar which measures the bandwidth speed. You can download it Here

awesome that's great whizzkid. I'm going to be without landline or broadband internet for a few months, so will be using my mobile phone as gprs modem. It will be critical I monitor traffic useage - as I'm on 2c per Kilobyte GPRS charges.
