Hi

I was happily reading Japanese on my phone for the last few days when I suddenly had an urge to start browsing from my phone. I launched Internet and it errored out. I didnt know what was going on at that moment, but I quickly realized that the Linnea.gdr was responsible for the damage

In order to have Japanese capability of the phone, I downloaded the Linnea.gdr font file, placed it in D:/system/fonts/ directory, rebooted the phone, and all was working like a charm. I mean reading Japanese. However the Internet browser is broken. Here is the error message I get:

Did any of you experience anything similar to this? When I boot the phone with the Memory Card out, the fonts are back to default, and Internet is working. After that I wanted to test further, so I put the memory card back but deleted the linnea.gdr, rebooted the phone, and Internet was working as well. So the only time Internet doesnt work when I have the Font file in D:/system/fonts

Opera works like a charm of course, this only affects the built-in Browser.

Thanks for any help,

Ben

See to it that you close other applications before opening the default browser and change gprs settings to wap

Hi

Thanks, I tried, but....That doesnt help either.

It has nothing to do with GPRS settings though, it has to do with the fonts. When I remove the font file, it will work like a charm. The problem I am having is not with the Internet connection itself, but with the Browser not starting up. It must be some font-issue, etc.

I would hope someone who has also linnea.gdr installed could tell me if the same problem exist for them also, or is it just me.

Thanks

Ben

The same thing happens when you put the Quartz.gdr (Symbian Viking - the generic UIQ font) to the Fonts folder;)

It may be due to the GDR font format itself.

Hi

Thanks, I guess this is the down side of the GDR. Thankfully I could defeat using the linnea.gdr, and now I found a TTF font that I can use with the Freetype.sis and it shows the Japanese fonts. But now I cannot see the Hungarian accents .. grrrrrrr. I guess I will make my own font.

This Japanese font that I use now is over 3MB in size. Wow, that is a huge font for a phone. I need to make it smaller somehow. hmm..

Thanks for all help,

Ben

Hi

I have experimented more, and this isnt a good solution either. I guess I will start a new thread with my new question, as that could be about any fonts not only Japanese fonts, so maybe it will get more attention.
