As a business user of P800 and now P910i I am waiting on the P990i however I might be tempted away by I-mate jasjar despite it's size. What would keep me with SE is Tom Tom GPS (even if I have to buy additional hardware/software) but the GPS would have to integrate with Calendar appointments to be efficient, ie. will the GPS be able to pick up the "Location" field of an appointment so that when I rush out of the office and jump into the car I plug the P990 in and it starts dirececting me to the required address. This would be ideal but is it asking too much?

Why not just add the addresses to you favourites in the tomtom menu, as that is what I do, then ask tomtom to direct me to which ever one I want.

Thats just lazy! Why not just type in the poscode and house number - OMG, 10 key presses maybe, agghhhhh!

I would like the P990 to clean my teeth in the morning & iron my shirt.

I'm not yet familiar with Tom Tom so wasn't aware of of its favourites address list feature. This might be useful but I might also end up with several hundred adresses in the list because of the large number of client visits I make. I have already keyed the address details into MS Outlook so I would prefer not to do so again. (I don't brush my teeth twice in the morning!). Does Tom Tom sync with the adress list in the name/address list in the mobile phone? I've heard of at least one GPS system for a PDA that does pick up an MS Outlook address and wondered about this capabilty with Tom TOm and P990i.

There is a feature on tomtom mobile that allows you to call a number from your phone book, but have not used this feature yet. I will try to find out about this feature, try going to pocketgps web site, and see what they say there, they will know better.

The feature is called "contacts navigation" and simply shows all your contatcs, you select one, and you have the option to "navigate there" or "show" on the map.

It's been useful a few times, and works well.

Of course we are assuming that Tomtom will work on the p990. Or even that they'll write a version for it.........

To all, thanks helpful for responses to date.
You may be right about TomTom (not) releasing a version for p990 but if one exists for the P910i and the trend is for GPS on smartphones it would seem unwise not to have a version for P990. Not sure why the 910 version wouldn't work on the 990 anyway? is there something radically different?

yeah they'll release one. Its just a question of when.

As far as I can tell, the P910 apps will not directly work on the p990, and I'm not good enough at software developmet to tell you why! Someone will pipe up though.

TomTom will almost certainly eventually release a version of TomTom Mobile compatible with the P990 (but probably not before the handset itself is available!) but there is no chance that the existing Mobile 5 software for UIQ will be compatible as the P990 will operate on a newer version of UIQ.

For the same reason, no applications currently available for the P900/910i will be able to be used on the P990.
