> P910 Modem Speed
Bookmark topic
Hi, I'm currently using my P910 as a modem at 9,6 kb/s
is this really as fast as it gets?
if not, how can i up the speed a bit?
(sorry if this has been discussed previously, i neglected to use the search function because it would take WAY to much time.)

The P910i does support high speed data (dial-up) as well that boosts speed upto 14.4k but this is only supported by a few networks (only Orange in the UK). If you want a lot faster data transfer from the phone then use GPRS which will tske you to about 48k. GPRS is supported by nearly all networks now and has pretty much superseeded dialup.

Actually, Orange's High Speed Circuit Switched Data (HSCSD) service is 28.8 kbps.
Their 'normal' dial-up service lets you specify 14.4 kbps at no extra cost to the 9.6 kpbs service.
As you say, though, GPRS has largely superceded dial-up, but HSCSD can be useful if you've a large file to download, for instance. In this case, it doesn't take profoundly longer to do the job compared with GPRS, yet can cost a lot less, dependent on what GPRS plan you use.

To use your P910 as a GPRS modem for your PC / laptop, look here:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprsconnect.html#laptop
To use GPRS from the phone itself (eg, when using the internal browser), simply go to Control Panel / Connections / Internet accounts, and set up a new account using GPRS as the connection type.
In both cases, your network should be able to provide you with the account specifics.
