@ECS: If you install the Nightlies Binaries for your nano, it will install alongside with your apple OS, so you can, sort of , dual boot. So your nano's data will be fine. See the Podzilla site for instructions.

heyy
i bought a 4 gig nano, my girlfriend bought a 2 gig, my charger/data cable fits VERY tight. sometimes it will be fully in, and wont charge, i have to push it quite hard. my girlfriends goes in good, and comes out fine, but mine is pretty tough. her charger is the same in mine, so its not the charger. should i get a new ipod? or deal with it?

@ecs: The problem could be either with your cable or your nano. However, there is no point to be putting up with the problem, If you feel you have a slightly faulty iPod, get it changed. Apple are very particular about Quality Control, so they will send you a brand new peice.

ANOTHER problem im having...
my girlfriends Ipod when connected to the computer ALWAYS says "Do Not Disconnect", even after a full charge and everything. is there something i can do to fix this? it works fine, but i am unsure why it does this.
p.s. thanks for the help! ive never been much of an ipod person, so now i need help! hahaha thanks!
edit: also, do i HAVE to use itunes to add my music? theres no way to drag and drop or anything else? im just not a fan of itunes...

@ecs: To the best of my knowledge, iTunes is the only way (possibly best and easiest too) to put stuff on any iPod. I have encountered many windows users (mostly vetrans) who find using iTunes frustrating, I on the other hand am impressed by how easy iTunes is.
Also, that 'Do Not Disconnect' means that 'Disk Usage' mode is enabled on your iPod, or its simply sync'ing with iTunes.
