hi, i bought a ready made packard bell computer a few months back that i have since customised inside like graphics/ram etc. i have run into a few problems and also i want to switch hard drives around, and really i just want to start from scratch again, like when i first bought it. after buying it i had a packard bell set up thing running that would set me up for internet and email etc. i bought this computer brand new from pc world and it came with windows xp ready installed on it etc.
now because of this i do not have the windows xp installation cd's... so my question is, can i still start from scratch and everything, with xp starting again with packard bell set ups and me being able to begin again fresh, without the xp cd/s? if so how do i begin this, i know i will need to back up my document files and such, where do i look on the pc to do this and start afresh?
thanks very very very much for any help.

Yup, if you have th recovery discs, which should come with your computer, you can do a system recovery. Basically it's the same as formatting your hard-disk and reinstalling windows.

Oh, so what did you do? I'm curious to know how to do a clean install without the discs.

the restore disks are saved on a partition on the hard drive. there should be an option called master disk creator which will burin these files on dvd and delete them on the hard drive.

i don't have any discs and i didn't do a restore point. i also tried to delete the partition of my hard drive, but it formatted everything, and i lost my stuff plus the windows files, only the control panel and my wallpaper remained lol

i thought i would have to take it in to get it repaired, but i found something in the manual, and it started a clean install, NOT a restore point, i got to do all the packard bell and xp set up again, like the computer and owner name etc... got lucky there phew.

That sounds really interesting. And yeah, i think reading the manual was a good move. Hmm... I'll try to go check it out when i get home. Might be a useful piece of info the next time i try to wipe out my hard disk. Heh...
