Hi,
I've been running Opera Mini with wap settings (cheaper than internet access point) on my Nokia 6030 for almost a month now, i've never had a problem... but today i made a mistake by letting someone play with my phone and totally screwed up my settings...
I'm running on Orange RO so here are my settings:
Access point: wap
Proxy: 62.217.247.252 (or wap.orange-gsm.ro, usually works better when entered numerically, no more dns queries...)
Port: 8799
No username or password.
First, i deleted all settings from my phone and tried to make new OTA settings... as i was expecting, the phone's internal browser worked, opera mini didn't... so i did manual settings like this:
Settings > Configuration settings > Personal config. settings > Add new > Web >
Account name: WAP GPRS
Homepage:
http://wap.orange.ro
User name:
Password:
Use preferred access point: No
Access point settings >
Proxy: enable
Proxy address: 62.217.247.252
Proxy port: 8799
Data bearer: packet data
Bearer settings >
Packet data access point: wap
Authentication type: Normal
User name:
Password:
Then i went back to Personal configuration settings, selected "WAP GPRS", went to Options and Activate.
In "Default configuration settings" i have selected "Personal config."
Then i went to "Activate default in all applications" and activated the settings.
Tried Opera mini... still no success... it says "processing..." forever.
The thing is that i remember that last time i did it i had to create an "access point" in "personal configuration settings", because without it Opera mini would say "Processing" but not process anything... (i put the phone near my monitor and couldn't see those "buzzez", it didn't even try to connect)
So i went to Settings > Configuration settings > Personal config. settings > Add new > Access Point >
Account name: APN WAP
Access Point Settings >
Data bearer: Packet data
Bearer settings >
Packet data access point: wap
Authentication type: normal
User name:
Password:
went back and activated this "access point" i have just defined...
Now, when i try to load a page in opera mini, my monitor "buzzez" when i put the phone next to it, but only for a few seconds and then stops, before it gets a chance for the page to load.
This is what i've noticed:
- without a separate "access point" defined, opera mini won't even try to connect with those "web" settings where i already defined an access point with the correct proxy settings...
- it will try connect if i define a separate "access point", but given the fact that i can only set the proxy in the "web" account, it can't load any pages with just the access point set...
- if i set "access point" "internet", then it works just fine, the problem is that internet apn is much more expensive than wap apn...
- phone's internal browser works fine all the time... it's the java apps that won't connect...
I repeat, it worked just fine on wap apn before, i see no reason why it shouldn't work again... i just can't remember what i did the last time when i made it work...
If any of you know, please, tell me... how can i set the proxy in the "access point" setting... or ... how can i make opera mini to connect with the "web" setting and not the "access point" one?
Whoever gets me out of this mess gets a genuine IM+ (www.shapeservices.com) license for JAVA!! And I mean genuine! Payed for it with my real money!
Thank you! I am looking forward your replies.
P.S. I never thought Nokias could be so hard to set up...

I wish u were using an SE phone then I'd be able to help. Try using the internet APN with the wap user name and password, also make sure the proxy server address is the same as IP address. Good luck.

If i use the internet APN, it will work with any user/password, but i will get charged...
P.S. It does run great though on my SE W800i

I've just set the wanted profile in "Java settings" and it worked a treat! SE rules

mi s-a intamplat de mai multe ori (eu am un SE k750) . Singura solutie pe care am gasit-o si a mers : sterge si mai downloadeaza o data Opera mini. Ar trebui sa mearga dupa asta. Oricum , sa-mi zici daca faci asta si daca ti-a mers. Bafta !

I ALSO USE OPERA MINI ON N6030. WORKS FINE WITH BSNL GPRS. WHERE WE HAVE TO USE ONLY ACCESS POINT AND NO PROXY.
BUT IN CONNECTIONS WHERE WE HAVE TO USE PROXY PORT AND PROXY ADDRESS. AS IN BSNL PORTAL AND AIRTEL IT DOESNT WORK.
PLEASE HELP
