IR range of the K750 is only a couple of inches, so would be pretty useless as a remote.

there are two separate methods here. Bluetooth Remote Control of the PC can be done with any bluetooth enabled SE mobile phone (atleast from the T610 onwards). The range is 10 metres or so. You can operate the computer from the handset.
Infrared remote control of a TV is another thing altogether. This is possible on some smartphones (not all). Also many phones Ir range is only a foot or less, which makes a pretty useless remote control.
I've read (but have never tested myself) that the P series Ir range is about a metre, also pretty useless for a TV remote control.
