General Packet Radio Service
An "add-on" to the existing GSM network. With GPRS you only pay for the amount of data you send/recieve, and not per minute, as it's when you use WAP over GSM (dialup). GPRS can also handle higher speeds than ordinary GSM calls since it can use more than one timeslot (if available) in the network. That is, you can use GPRS when surfing around WAP pages (like Esato's wappage

) or hook up your laptop computer and get a less expensive connection then if you would have used a mobilephone for dialup connection.
To get information about your network providers GPRS services, how set up your phone etc, check their website.

Not to over ride Cytec, but I found this on the

site:
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) allows large amounts of data to be sent over mobile networks at speeds three to four times greater than conventional GSM systems.
Because the data is sent in packets, GPRS enables operators to offer customers simultaneous, data-rich services, such as multimedia messaging, gaming, entertainment, and news, over their mobile phones right now. GPRS has no dial-up time so it is, in effect, "always on", always connected to the net.
Currently 188 telecom operators have invested in GPRS technology, with 78 networks already in commercial service. Ericsson is the world’s leading GPRS network supplier, having provided more GPRS networks worldwide than any of its competitors.
World-class Mobile Internet services right now
GPRS is an enhancement of operators’ existing GSM networks. GPRS allows operators to handle vast amounts of Internet data and offer rich portfolios of colorful, fun services using the GSM networks they already have.
Because GSM is the most widely used mobile system in the world, for most operators GPRS is the easiest and most logical way of offering customers fast, exciting Mobile Internet services today.
