You COULD upgrade the OS to next UIQ IF the SE would wish to allow this.
The point is, that SE does not care about 'old' users...
To sum up - you can't upgrade to UIQ3.x

That apart..was the P910 hardware designed to be forward compatible..other than firmware updates to the OS version it came with.... the gap between the duration of release of the P910 & the P990 is huge... so logically i wouldn't think it would be able to support the upgrade... for e.g ..can you upgrade a computer running windows98 on a celeron to windows vista ..without changing key components of the hardware???

Yes you can. And it will run like shit. Even with the graphical features of vista disabled.
Same I expect with the P910. UIQ3 is possibly compatible with the P910 hardware - but the memory is too little for either the new Symbian version or the UIQ3 shell to run smoothly or promptly.

I am not sure these devices are actualy designed to last long enough to be constantly upgraded from one OS to another.
I am a real

fan but the build quality of the P series is not very good, my p910i is very well looked after but even that is looking a bit tired the chrome camera bezel peeled off on the first week! and the silver paint effect is wearing through on all sharp edges and the back, and this phone is ALLWAYS carried in a pocket on its OWN.

is a comercial enterprise and they want to sell us new phones, fair enough nothing wrong in that at all, but the new high end N***a's (there I said it!) look and feel much better made than the P910i you are in danger of being beaten at your own game

Hi all, even if my P910i could run the new versions do you really want to be the bug reporting software testers owners of the new OS are going to be. I for one will wait at least 6 months before getting my M600. Also i may have some good news for people in the UK it looks like Virgin are about to start a 3G tariff which will mean phones if they get the M600 or P990 or even the K800i they will be unbranded and unlocked past experience would say. I will never buy another branded phone again unless of course i can get it unbranded easily of course.
