now i really love having a joystick on my phone, its something quite unique to sony (perhaps some others) and ecspecially for gaming its great. i just wondered how they have designed the k790/k800's joystick. since the k750 has had a few dust problems, and despite my over the top caring for it, the dust has recently beaten me and has got inside. if you look at the joystick area and put the phone at and angle you can see an open door into the phone's insides and its screen etc. i'd love to have a joystick, but does anyone know how the k790/k800's is, will it have this problem or is it more tightly fit?

from what i have heard SE have solved the dust problem by making the joystick a sealed unit so no dust can get in to the phone.

as much as i love the joy stick idea for me its the main thing that put me off the k750/w800.
its great for a few months but after that the dust gets in and it slowly starts to get worse until the point its barely useable which renders the phone pretty much useless

great, so j-j, if the joystick is a sealed unit then there will be no dust problem. i think if this is true, surely its better to have a joystick...

if its true then its definately worth looking at but im still not sure how much of the damage is down to dust and how much is down to wear and tear on the actual joystick.
I suppose only time will tell.

i think its actually all dust, perhaps after a few years its wear and tear, but not so early on when people are complaining. but it also gets under the screen through the joystick area as well which is annoying. mine only started not woking properly when i had a large dust build up around the joystick, but i protect it better from dust now and clean it regulary, the joystick is fine but the dust has beaten me to the screen.

We'll just have to wait and see whether or not the design actually works or not. In a few months you will be able to get a real idea of how reliable the joystick is. When the K750 came out it was praised as having the BEST joystick ever; now maybe not...
