Hi guys,
I bought my SE W900i a few days ago, it was unlocked to any network but had the Vodafone Live! background and settings. I've been using my o2 simcard with no problems, other than I cant access WAP or picture messages. I therefore sent the phone off to be debranded (all Vodafone links taken away). I got the phone back earlier with no Vodafone links but I'm still finding it difficult to access WAP or internet. I try to go to a webpage but get the message 'Connection Failure. Check settings. If problem persists, please contact operator support'
I've contacted o2 and Sony Ericsson, and downloaded the latest settings etc but to no avail.
If anyone has had this trouble before and could help it would be very much appreciated!
Regards,
Scutch

hey. I am having the exact same problem. I thought it was because you needed a 3g sim card but thats not the case.

So is there a fix? There must be users out there who have a W900i phone unocked and are using a simcard from another network with no problems??

Hey Scutch. I finally managed to get my phone to work with the Internet and can send MMS messages. Here is what I did:-
I performed an all master reset and not just the settings. Unforunately this WILL DELETE ALL USER DATA, i.e. contacts, messages, pictures, sounds, games and themes. You may also lose content that you received with the phone when you purchased it. I ADVISE BACKING UP ANY NUMBERS SAVED TO YOUR PHONE MEMORY TO YOUR SIM CARD. After peforming the reset, the phone will be restarted.
I then went to "Data Comm" and created a new account. DONT AND I CANT EMPHASISE THIS ENOUGH, GO TO THE SE WEBSITE AND SEND THE SETTINGS TO YOUR PHONE!
Then enter all the below information, COMPLETELY MANUALLY!
Homepage:
http://wap.o2.co.uk/
APN address (contract): wap.o2.co.uk
APN address (PAYG): payandgo.o2.co.uk
Gateway (IP) address : 193.113.200.195
Username : o2wap (contract) / payandgo (PAYG)
Password: password
Session type: Continuous / permanent
HTTP Proxy: 193.113.200.195
Port number: 8080
Authentication: Normal
Then after you have entered the above information, go to "Internet Services" and hopefully a small icon of the world globe should appear in the top left hand corner of the screen, next to your signal strength. You should be greeted with a Google like website and if you can access any of the pages on that page, your wap should be up and running. Fingers crossed for you m8. All the best, Nick.

don't back up your phonebook to the sim card where everything gets screwed up, back it up to the memory stick

Hi, thanks. Didnt work for me so I'll write down manually what I did.
Master Reset, no problems.
Go to Data Comm. then Data Accounts.
New Account
PS Data
Name > Inputted your info.
APN > Data
Username > Data
Password > Data
Save
Edit Created Account, gives a list of APN, Username, Password, Login Request, Allow Calls, IP Address, DNS Address, Authentication, Data Compression and Header Compression.
I filled these in using your details, although dont know what DNS Address is so I used the proxy address you posted. When clicking Authentication, I get None, PAP, CHAP, MS Chap and MS Chap V. The first 3 are ticked.
Once that is done I now need to set up Internet Settings (Under Data Comm.)
When I click this I get Internet Profiles which I select, then create a New Profile, called o2 WAP GPRS. Connect Using o2 WAP GPRS etc. then set it up accordingly using some of the details you posted. Am I doing this right?
If so, I went to Internet Services, and got the Google page with all the options underneath such as Sony Ericsson, Accessories, Picture Gallery etc. but no Globe in the top corner. I tried to do a Google Search for anything at all, and got the dreaded 'Connecting' > 'Connection Failure. Check Settings. etc.'
It must be my settings if yours is ok?
Thanks.

Scutch, what did you do that was different from your post where you still had trouble? Did you use the w800i settings instead of the one's suggested by nr7489?
Im about to do a master reset, and wondered what to enter for DNS adress and the others that you mentioned that nr7489 didnt write down?
O2 emailed me generic settings- they are:
Name - O2 WAP GPRS
APN - payandgo.o2.co.uk
Default URL -
http://payandgo.O2.co.uk
Port - 9201
Security - Off
IP Address - 193.113.200.195
Linger time - 120 seconds
Username - payandgo
Password - password
MMS Generic Settings
Profile Name - O2 MMS
Server URL -
http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Gateway IP - 193.113.200.195
Bearer Type - select GPRS, Press Menu select Edit
APN - payandgo.o2.co.uk
User ID - payandgo
User Password - Password
Authentication - Normal
I'd appreciate any help before I try to reset things; cheers.
