you are covered for water damage, accidental damage, theft, lost etc.
regarding the joystick, that is a fault that can be covered under your warranty free of charge by calling o2, o2 would replace the handset with another one of the same model.
you can get it replaced by o2 insure, they will not fix it but they will replace it, you can claim under damage with the insurance however you would pay £25 excess fee for the insurance, if you don't claim it under insurance they would replace it free of charge.

so its better for me to just claim it under the warrenty, that way i dont have to pay the £25 excess charge?

There should be a warranty on the refurbished handset.
To call o2 online the number should be: 08706003009.
You would have to send your phone 1st before o2 would send out a replacement phone. Keep a copy of proof of postage when you send your damaged phone.
I have seen that before too, o2 gold insurance, however its a retail O2 UK thing, its not an o2 online thing. Um, your best going to the store to see if they would allow that, cuz i am sure its only certain types of handsets you can upgrade to after 6 months. Not too sure on that issue though.
