I know what edge is and all, but I have edge on one of my TMO phones, and it doesn't seem all that fast (not as fast as ppl claim it to be)
How fast exactly is edge suppose to be

I can confirm this. The usable bandwidth is about 120-150kBit/s in good reception conditions. The theoretical 384kBit/s you never get, that's only possible when using 8 time slots at a time. Most mobile phones only support 4 at a time (some 6), so there you are with 192kBit/s theoretically. Together with overhead, reception etc. etc. you end up with 120-150.
With 3G UMTS on the other hand I can stream video with about 250-300kBit/s continuously.

Wow BobaFett - that's some sloooooow UMTS you've got there!!! I mean, I've got EDGE and I'm getting pretty good speed on it (about 180-190kbps) but if you're only getting 200kbps out of your UMTS, you're getting ripped off IMO. I've tested UMTS here in the US a while back and it was close to double the speed of EDGE at the time. HSDPA 3g here is about 1.2mbps up AND down...
