I know a lot of people find the HPM-70 earphones provided with the phone very good. I didn't like them that much, so I used Sony earphones (25€) earphones untill now. Today I bought the Sony MDR nx-1 earphones. They also have the earbuds like the HPM-70 so I was a bit sceptic when I bought them, but I was willing to give them a go.
I was amazed when I first plugged them in. The bass is overwhelming, midtones are more then good and the high tones are christal clear.

I was wondering which earphones other SE Walkman owners are using and curious about their experiances with other earphones.

Been using a variety... First the headphones that came with the HBm-30 (remember that horrid thing? hehe) the headphones however are GREAT for the w800 though hehe

Recently bought some sony MDR-66s. Mainly for the retractable cords, have to say loving them!

I used the MDR nx-1 for 2 days now and I have to say I'm not that happy with them. The sound quality is OK (The best I've had so far), but when I use them with my W800i the hissing on low volumes is just very disturbing. When I use the headphones that are supplied with the W800i I can hear a slight hissing on low volumes, but I have to listen very carefull. When I use my old Sony earphones I can't detect any hissing at all. With the MDR nx1 the hissing is clearly there. When I use the headphones with my Sony NW-E99 ther is no hissing.

I am wondering if the hissing problem has anyting to do with the headphones that are used. (a different frequency responde, higher or lower impedance, higher sensitivity ...)

I was also wondering if fatreg has the hissing problem with his EX71s. I'm told the NX1 uses the same earphones.

I'm using mdr-EX70, which I bought 3 years ago for my MD player. I've put this and the original set through a lot of different test before making my decision. Even though it's a 3 year old headset (hardly used though) I found the bass to be deeper and more dynamic, wider high frecuency range, an overall better sound compared to the original. If the high end Shure headphones wasn't as overpriced as they are I'd go with them, but for the money I paid for the EX-70 ($55 3 years ago) it's a pretty decent quality.

I use the HPM-70 earphones that came with the W800i. I like them as due to the shape of the earpads which do drone the out the street noise and are very good sound quailty!

Regards,
