Hey Guys, Found this article today in The Times of India..!
" Inspired to create a mobile tracking solution after his 16 yr old sons mobile got lost. P Shekar,Chairman of Micro Technologies (www.microtechnologies.net) began work on a program to track cell phones.
The Code-downloadable @ Rs 200-300 ( Which is around US$ 5 ) allows the owner to track his stolen/lost mobile with exact location of the phone and the new SIM number and phone number.
Which allows the operators to block the connection, and which IMHO will also allow you to trace seller who sell stolen phones and buyers who buy stolen phones...!
Acc to Shekar " stolen phone is generally sold in the grey market. When a New SIM is inserted, the solution embedded in the phone notifies the orignal owner of the New SIM number and location of the phone. He claims Nine out of Ten times, when the orignal caller called the stolen phone, the third party returns the phone...."
Seems a great solution, but its practicality is limited to the point where-You just need to Re-flash the phone completely and erase any software added onto it..However if this could be embedded along with Firmware and Basic Phone BIOS then No way can you escape from the Snifer..Only the stolen phone will come handy in Spare Parts...! and another issue is that it needs to have GPRS on with the new operator also- So Micro should also incorporate the code on basic GSM Standard instead...!
Shekar claims that the company is in talks with 5 Major Manfacturers and Operators....Hope SE puts this on future phones...and yes I see SE supporting this Microtechnologies Research...On the website..!
