I was sitting around rather bored tonight and thought there must be a way to repair the missing orange rubber bit on the joystick of my W800i. Yes, like many others it just fell out one day without me knowing and left me with a rather uncomfortable joystick. And, I couldn't be bothered sending my phone away for 3 weeks to have a new (and probably temporary) joystick replacement. So, I looked around in my shed and found some red/orange gasket seal (silastic or silicon) - I like to work on cars. So, I thought I would try using this to fill the hollow in my joystick. To my surprise it didn't turn out too bad either - certainly better than ripping the phone apart to insert a 3rd party joystick. All I did was fill the void with the silicon and then mould it as best I could. I then got a cotton bud that was very lightly coated with dishwashing liquid (a tip for newbie’s - silicon does not stick to dishwashing liquid) and moulded the button as best I could. Then as the silicon started to dry, or form a skin, I pressed my thumb down lightly to better press and form the silicon down into the void of the joystick. The end results are not too bad at all if I do say so myself - see pictures and judge for yourself. Perhaps this is worth a try for the many others that are missing that orange "button" in their joysticks. The beauty of this method is that if it fails - you can pull all the silicon out once it has dried without any damage to your phone. I think this is a great and cheap solution that all W800 owners should try. I would even say (in all modesty) that this is worthy of a sticky post.

These are the clearest photos I can can get of what I have done. BTW that is a Krussell case - by far the best case I have found for a W800 - no exceptions at all..

I swear, looking at an original and what I have done - it's pretty damn close. In fact, my solution may even be a little bit better as my procedure has some how managed to place a little roughage into the silicon (much like the ecstasy button on a laptop) - which makes for better grip. Plus, I don't think I could have gone any neater in finish around the edges - to me it almost looks like a bought one. Just edited this post to see if my location would show up

Good to see a fellow diyer with a similar solution to mine. I used 2-pack polyurethane to form a higher more rounded top. I prefer this fix to the original shape and I find it easier to use.
