Today I went to the o2 shop and had a look at the HPM-70 headset (the one which comes with the W800i), £29.99 - no thankyou.

There was a market nearby with a mobile stall...out of interest I asked the trader if he had "W800i earphones" - so he pulls out a OEM HPB-60 (K750i earphones) from a box and says £8... I say no thankyou... he says "but this is original!". He then says... I also have this for £4 - an OEM-looking HPM-70 wrapped in a plastic bag thing. I think to myself... a HPM-70 for £4?!?!!?! even on ebay from hong kong they cost at least £15... so i decided to buy it. I noticed that it didnt come with any replacement (different sized) earplugs as they usually do.

I havent had a chance to actually try it out because I sent off my K750i to o2 for repair...

On close inspection the headset seems fine, but the plastic chassis of each earphone is sort of loose...im not sure whether this is common with all HPM-70s? Also the "walkman" writing on the microphone seems a bit poor... again not sure whether this is common with all HPM-70s...

Enclosed are some pictures...

Any opinions?

EDIT: The sony ericsson logo just fell off the left earphone.. doesnt look too promising

My hpm-70 has a circuit inside the little connector bit whereas your just seems to be a load of wires going from one side to the other with nothing attached to a borad of some sort.

Sounds suspiciously cheap, I suspect it's a very good looking Far Eastern fake one! How's the sound quality, that's often a big giveaway!

Well, at least you've got the adaptor now, that means you can now use any headphones of your choice.

If the sound quality is as good as original enough and it doesn't feel like it'll fall apart at the slightest usage, it's perfectly okay to have a £4 fake - i'd buy it any odd day!

heh well it's a bit too late for that now... as i posted earlier the sony ericsson logo fell off each ear, and the earphone casing completely split as i tried to take off the rubber plug... but that wasn't a problem... some super glue did the trick

As far as sound quality goes, at low volumes its a bit tinny, but at a high enough volume the sound quality is decent, if not a little bit too much bass

Thanks

I got this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay[....]ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=016

£6.50 and following the tip here I opened the mic and found the circuitboard inside. It also came with other sizes of ear plugs and the little light-green tag by the connector with a serial number on it: 1068928.

Looks good. Shame my W550i had a problem with only playing on the right channel and has had to go back for repair!!

Genuine ones come with a little tag attached to the cable (near the phone plug) with serial numbers etc.If it hasnt got that its will be fake but do bear in mind these little fakers in the far east have probably cottoned on and now fit the tag.

Btw i bought 2 sets (one black and one silver) recently for £8 each and if these were fakes they were bloody good ones cos from my experience owning a !00% genuine set (paid over £20 for a blistered pack) i couldnt tell the differences by looking at them and they sound exactly the same also.
