Hi

I have been using Quick Office for a while and have been a happy camper with it. Now, I am going to a conference and need to take a lot of information with me. I have an excel sheet which is over 800Kb, and I am struggling at opening it.

When I click it, it says "Converting native office file"

The bar below goes from 0% to 80% and then it fails and quits with Kernel 3 error.

Is there a way to do this conversion on the PC and transfer a file which Quickoffice can handle easily? The size unfortunately cannot be cut, as it contains 1000s of contacts.

Thanks

Ben

You forget to mention on which handset you want to use it on

Oh, man, yeah I forgot. Thanks for mentioning. Its a P910i and I am using the builtin QuickOffice, I think Version 1.57 or so.

forget it. i had the same issue with my 910. i emailed the 'support' at QO and said that the phone would not convert my file,it said not enough memory. they replied that it would open files upto 4 meg. total crock. i kept editing the file smaller and smaller and if i recall right 200kb was about the lot, and it took ages to open at that size.
funny enough though the 'stellant viewer' that was on the CD with my P800 opened the an 800mb file on my P800. this viewer also worked on the P900 very swiftly. tried it on the 910 and it does not show an icon to open it with and i dont know if it can be used. this was a year ago when i got my 910.

when the holy grail ( P990 ) is available to us mortals i shall be taking a suitable 1 gig MS DUO with atleast a 1 meg excel file to open with me. if it don't open it i'm not having the phone.

Hi

Wow, I see. That is pretty depressing. Why on earth would it not open an 800KB file? I really need it to be opened. I will try some other viewers.

The thing I dont know is why Quickoffice is trying to "CONVERT" the file? Cannot I just save it in a format that Quickoffice is comfortable with, so no conversion would be required? Maybe it whould open it then...

that would be great, if they provided you with a desktop converter. i think i'm right in saying also that quick office format is larger than excell once converted. if you find a useable viewer for the 910 please let me know.

Just try Documents To Go -- it's superior in every respect to Quick Office on the P910.

i second that. Having used both i found docs to go much better than quick office. Having switched to windows mobile after the p910 office documents are a breeze with the pre installed pocket word & excel

yeah, Docs to Go is MUCH better, faster, better formatting, doesn't create strange html files instead of .doc, don't need a Excel plug in (if you're on W2000 like me).

The only thing it's got going for it comparatively - if I'm not mistaken - is the ability to edit ppt files. But until the lanscape view comes along (& I doubt it will on IUQ2 now) it's a real pain to do anything with a ppt file anyway.
