Hi
I have a SE W800i with OLD FIRMWARE R1N035. I am aware of the USB problem whereby many poeple have reported to have their MP3's disappeared after the USB transfer. It happened to me too. A firmware update solves the issue they say. So I am not overly concerned with that.
But today (after a month from buying the phone) I have noticed that many of pics taken from the in-built camera are rendered non-visible. Either they are simply black or there is a cartoon icon with white head & red shirt. When I transfer these "non-visible" files back to PC, the file size is the same (around 300-400KB) but the files do not open.
Something similar happened to a friend with W550i with OLD FIRMWARE as well. His Pictures intermittently disappear & appear again after few days!!!
Secondly, while playing some MP3 files they stop after some time or an error comes "PLAYBACK FAILED".
Have you heard of such issues? Are these just the problems due to OLD FIRMWARE or something else? Will they be solved "for sure" after updating the firmware?
Your advice needed.
Thanks for your time!
Guy.

Yes CellDude... those are due to old firmware; are fixed for sure in the latest release.
I can tell you because I had the same problems some time ago.
About the black pictures, was an issue where, as you said, pics would go black (thumbnails) and you couldn't see them. I think that when you copy them to the PC you are triggering the USB file transfer problem so the files are copied corrupted, hence not being able to be opened...
So.. why don't you want to update to latest release? It's A HELL BETTER in every way...
Good luck.

Thanks Dan
I will get the update soon. Actually, I fear updating the Cell thru my PC for I have a wobbly net conneciton & the nearest SE Service centre is miles away!
Thanks for giving me some respite

Don't you worry about the net connection...
The firmware files are FULLY downloaded (may it take 10 minutes, 1 hour, 23 days, whatever), and THEN the firmware updating process will start; so it's the same as updating through dial-up or ADSL (the only diff. is the time I'd take).
Good luck
