go easy I only joined tonight and am no expert !!!

I have a W800i and it freezes when the keypad is locked sometimes, the clock that displays appears to have stopped and all I can do is take the battery out and re-start... the firmware is R1AA008 ... this maybe a daft question but.. my phone is unlocked (sim free).. will changing the firmware or doing a master reset change that?.. any ideas welcome

welcome here! let it flash again with the actual fw version, if the fone is under warranty sE will do it for free of charge.

I had the exact same problem as yourself. My W800i would freeze on the standby clock screen, phone would not respond, the only thing that did function is the backlight, when I would press the up or down volume buttons.
I did not have this problem until I flashed to R1AA008.
When I updated through SEUS with R1BC002 (latest version), the problem was solved.

So you can do one of 2 things:
*Update to firmware version R1BC002 through SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service).
*Go into SETTINGS>DISPLAY>SLEEP MODE CLOCK>OFF. This will turn off the clock in standby mode so the phone will not freeze. Display will be blank in standby mode, but you can just press one on the volume buttons to illuminate, and display the clock.

Also, doing a master reset, or a software update, should not change the status of your sim lock. If you bought it unlocked, it should stay unlocked regardless.

Thanks Seguy that't so helpful... I'm nervous about changing the software as I have read horror stories on the forum about is wrecking the phone.. I'll try turning the clock off

What do you make of that?
