> What frequency does mobile run in Bahamas?

I am assuming 1900 just like North America? Is this correct? Do all countries in Central and South America use the same frequency?

Ive done a lot of research and i dont see any GSM provider in Bahamas, does this mean there is no GSM system in that country at all?
If anyone knows, i would appreciate the info

If there is it will either be tri-band or iden - bits of south america run on iden (as u no it's not gsm compatible) so u will need an iden phone.

Anyways, i did a couple more search and I am almost certain that there is no gsm system in bahamas. Kind of amazes me.
Anyhow, would that mean text messaging wouldnt work? I mean, does txt only work on gsm systems? Especially texting internaionally, philippines to be more specific.

they had TDMA i think but i guess thinking it to work for text messaging is like thinking the impossible..
dont much about tdma or whatever it is

Bahamas has network called Batelco, which has an AMPS network (whatever that is) & runs on frequency of 800mhz - no sure if this is fixed line pay phones or mobile network - use

Well I guess that means I have to rent a phone when going to Bahamas. Or does anyone have any updated information? I'd like to use my cell phone when I'm there.

Maybe the easiest way is inquiring ur own network runner. They might know the GSM coverage there, or even roaming status. AMPS? An exactly old analog system prior to TDMA. Is it still alive?
