Mac OS X users may have encountered a problem with the HPM-10's problems reading MMC card's written via OS X's finder: "File System Error."

After doing some research I've found the cause and cure.

It actually stems from OS X's use of HFS. In copying your MP3's onto a MMC card, OS X also writes invisible files that contain HFS data (e.g., icon, creator, etc.).

If you view your card's content via the phone, you'll see files like "._Name-of-Song."

Here's a more thorough explanation about these "._" files:

These files are created on volumes that don't natively support full HFS file characteristics (e.g. ufs volumes, Windows fileshares, etc). When a Mac file is copied to such a volume, its data fork is stored under the file's regular name, and the additional HFS information (resource fork, type & creator codes, etc) is stored in a second file, with a name that starts with "._". (These files are, of course, invisible as far as OS-X is concerned, but not to other OS's; this can sometimes be annoying...).

As you may have already guessed, the Ericsson MP3 player can't handle these secondary files.

To remove them, simply drag and drop your MP3's (that are already copied onto the MMC) onto an HFS stripper such "DeleteCTX."

Now I have yet to figure out how to control order of playback (anybody?), but I hope this tip will help all of you out there who, like me, had to deal with the annoying "File System Error" in between every song.
