Hello,
Thm files can now be protected, to stop people ripping images from them, and/or uploading to sites that generate auto screen shots.
Theme leaching is common practice unfortunately, and is annoying for theme designers, maybe this will help to reduce it.

When uploading to
se.mobilethemes.com there is a protect option, tick this and the theme will not open in the theme creator, can not be extracted using winrar, and can not be uploaded to se theme generation sites.

I hope all SE original themes don't have this 'lock up' system. I have converted themes of W900,K700,Z1010 and others to my K750 by using Winrar and theme creator..if it is disabled, what can I do then? I do respect theme copyright, that's why I never upload themes I've converted for public need-just for my private use..I'm looking forward to K800/K790/W850 themes..SE,please don't lock.

does it perchance 'lock' your theme to the hosting site as well? Or do you remain visible as 'owner and creator'?

Im not sure if SE have any plans to protect the default themes, this has nothing to do with SE.
The name of the uploader and creator are both listed on the site, next to the themes preview screens, you can if you so wish, protect the theme and then host it anywhere you like.
The mobilethemes name, and a protected note, is added to the author section of the theme creator, along with the author name.

Well that for me is the decisive factor then. Can't say I agree to a policy of 'we'll protect your files if you upload them to us, but it means if anybody downloads this file to their phones it won't state
you as creator anymore.'
For me leeching is all about taking credit.... and quite honestly I'm not really sure how this is any different?

Assuming so called protected themes can still be exchanged from phone to phone (isn;t that why people make themes in the first place?) I think something valuable is lost in the process.
And in case anybody wonders: yes I am slightly proprietary and protective towards my won themes, I'm proud of them and I want under no circumstances have anybody else name listed as author.

@Vlammetje: Elton is talking about the picture you use for make the themes, some people used to ripe them, that's what he is saying to protect.

A very much simpler idea is to use the DRM protector that SE provides, and creeate your own DRM content. The .DM files can't be extracted or ripped either, and you can add in your oun name and date of creation. You can also limit the number of times the file can be used, after which, the file kills itself.
