Iv done this. You need to have:
A Aux input on ur hifi
Then buy a cable not sure what it is its just a standard 3.5mm jack at 1 end and a black and red at the other.
Then conect the 3.5mm jack to the green hole at the back fo the PC and the red and black to the hifi.
Then when u want to listen to music make sure ur hifi is set to the Aux option

The lead is a 3.5mm stereo jack to twin phono lead. The phono ends can be red and black or red and white.

yep jc has it right. I too am thinking about doing a similar thing, its either that or sell my 200w sony system...
What I want to to is: hook up my xbox thorugh my sound system along with my tvtuner, and then connect both to my new monitor o and then connect my pc up to the sound system, it effectivly means I need 6 phono inputs which I dont have, any suggestions for a input thingy?

i do this but i must warn you, you get alot of distorted signals.... (it crackles alot) i kdont personally think its all that good for your system... unless you buy a live drive for a soundblaster card or something...... that way you could hook up optical or with a coaxial cable.....
