A high-pitched alarm which cannot be heard by adults has been hijacked by schoolchildren to create ringtones so they can get away with using phones in class.

Techno-savvy pupils have adapted the Mosquito alarm, used to drive teenage gangs away from shopping centres.

They can receive calls and texts during lessons without teachers having the faintest idea what is going on

The alarm, which has been praised by police, is highly effective because its ultra-high sound can be heard only by youths but not by most people over 20.

Schoolchildren have recorded the sound, which they named Teen Buzz, and spread it from phone to phone via text messages and Bluetooth technology.

Now they can receive calls and texts during lessons without teachers having the faintest idea what is going on.

here it is for you guys

I think it's a distance thing, so the further you are and older, the less likely you'll hear it.

Had one of these by public toilets in the main car park in my town. Was there to stop the chav yobs hanging around it. Didn't do any work. I loved it though, I could here it from 100 feet away; really intrigued me.
Used to walk past it every day after school just to hear it.
Sort of sad I know.... took my dad past it though and my mum they couldn't here a thing.
They've turned it off now.

Just read the phonie bit heh. Everyone can hear them when it's on the phone. A couple kids had it confiscated in our school.

lol, funny thing is, if you loop it and just listen, it kind of feels good. Like your mind goes soft. And when it's off, you want to hear it again

To me, it just sounds like someone has left their CRT TV on... People think I'm mad when I say I can hear the refreshing of the TV screen which is basically the same high-pitched noise.

hurts my ears.

kinda cool, though. but i'd much rather have my phone in my pocket and have it on vibrate. or try out the new motorola phones which'll have a bit of electroshock in 'em.
