if i buy a w810i from 02 will it have branding on it and will it be unlocked?

But you can pay them for an unlock code as i just did with my Nokia 6630 on Hutchinson 3.
It cost me £15, ok £5 more than what the guy down the local market charges but is a gurantee it will work and if not then 02 have to replace handset.

It will be unlocked but branded. The branding is limited to O2 start-up and shutdown and a link to there wapsite on the menu.

O2 branding is not as bad as Voda and Orange, they ruin the whole phone in my opinion. I nowadays only buy from O2 if needed.

totally depends where you're buying from.
If its from o2 online contract then it will be minimal branding as described above by jcwhite (it really is minimal, shouldn't bother you at all) and unlocked. If its o2 online payg then it will be minimal branding again however probably locked.
If you are buying from a store, its hard to tell really, depends! If its cpw for example you could be lucky enough to get an unbranded and unlocked phone.
