Sony Ericsson have edged past Samsung to become the third largest handset manufacturer in the UK, the two companies are locked in a fierce battle to take the title, according to sources. The number one UK manufacturer currently being Nokia and in second place Motorola. Could Sony Ericsson’s success leapfrog them to steal Motorola’s second place?
Samsung's share of the UK market has dipped from a consistent 18% last year to 13% this year. Samsung intend to fight back in the next few weeks with the launch of the Samsung E900 mobile phone with touch sensitive keys.
It is claimed that Sony Ericsson have risen to 15% market share in February and has held on to its title ever since. Its success could be attributed to their successful Walkman mobile phone range, with models such as the Sony Ericsson W550i, Sony Ericsson W810i, and the Sony Ericsson W900i.
Sony Ericsson have announced its Q4 walkman styled mobile phone in the form of the 3G Sony Ericsson W850i slider. Samsung on the other hand are keeping tight lipped on its successor to the Samsung D800 which will be released in time for the Christmas market. Will Samsung's new secret handset overtake the 3G W850i? Only time will tell, let battle

I don't think the popularity of the

brand has peaked yet and loads of new models have been announced so far already so I think the market share will be even bigger Q4.
Plus if Cybershot gives the same leverage that

did then they will be on to something big.
EDIT: Walkman smilies inserted after wrists slapped by 786KBR
ps. Will there be a Cybershot smily

@JN
Motorola makes good phones? I find the V3x to be slow and a clunky plactic block. Its camera isn't that good and its interface is slow.
Anyways, I think that SE has a good market share in all the GSM countires, but when it comes to worldwide markets, it flounders. Take the number of phones SE has released in America. And SE doesn't make CDMA phones (i think), so their market share is kinda limited.
