I have a DVD with a small scratch in it, but it always stops during the movie, then skips like 30 minutes of it. does anyone know a way to make it stop doing this?
i have heard: its hopeless, toothpaste, spit on it and wipe it off, and let them soak in warm water. haha any other ideas?

I'm not sure if it will help you, but I had a device a couple of years ago. It was the same diameter as a CD/DVD, but was about 4-5cm high. You would insert a CD/DVD, and then rotate a polishing wheel (which included a solution). I think it was just a mild abrasive, which took out scratches.
I would suggest that you try rubbing the disc with something like brasso ( I might be totally wrong, so don't sue me ), whihch is mildly abrasive, however for all I know this might screw up your disc. The only reason why I suggested this was because my pre-mentioned device used an abrasive solution.
Sorry for not coming up with something better, and I hope you solve your problem.

For the love of God, no! Whisky is meant to be drunk, its not a cleaning fluid!
Pick up the disc and hold it by the edge or loop a finger through the hole in the center. Using a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the surface, starting at the center and moving outward to the edge. Wipe across the disc rather than in a circular motion, which can cause microscratches and damage the data stored on the disc. If that doesn't do the job, dampen the cloth with a gentle soap-and-water solution and rewipe. Never use household cleaners, abrasives or solvents on CDs or DVDs.
**Never wipe in a circular motion, as the information is stored in a circular motion, you may make the scratch longer, destroying more data. If you scratch the disc across the way, its not so bad - it won't skip much at all, as there is only a tiny gap to jump, rather than a long gap. Hope that made sense!
