There any way to stop them? In the last month i've had 3 calls alone. They start by saying something like 'Hi, i'm calling from [funky a** company name goes here] and we'd like to ask you a few questions- are you on pay & go or contract?'. Then they'll go on to ask ova stuff like 'how much do u top up a week?' and 'how many free texts a month do you get?'.
I'm like
'i'm on 02, i get 300 txts free...'. Then they'll say 'ok well what we're going to do is give you 1000 free txts, x free minutes and an LG xxxxx phone for just £20 a month- all i need is your details, what is your address?'
The first time these people called i initially said 'no thanks', but they kept insisting saying its a gr8 offer so i hung up. The 2nd time i told them i had a perfectly good sony ericsson that i want to keep, then they said 'well its great as a spare, you could give it to your mum or your sister' (not if i'm paying for the contract i ain't! And how did you know i had a mum and a sister u creep?! lol
- so i hung up). The 3rd time (which happened just under 15 mins ago!) i answered, they said 'hi i'm calling from multi-mobil...'- i hung up before they could finish.
I cud just not answer unknown numbers, but sometimes my friends call me from ova mobiles. But i'm interested to know if n e of u guys get similar calls. And anyone have a general idea how to stop them (perhaps by calling O2) or where they got my number (cuz i dunt give it out on marketing surveys)?

More so to contract customers, I get about 2 or 3 a month, always close together, e.g. I get one sales call and then another two within a few days.
So much for customer confidentiality, mailing and phone number lists are a hot commodity.
Not a lot you can do about it really despite what certain websites and consumer organisations claim. if your details are on a database and the small print in your contract / agreement negates the 'I do not wish my details to made available' boxes that you always tick, then you've had it!
EDIT: I'm talking generally there about the boxes that you tick, I don't think mobile phone contract forms even have those exclusion boxes? Fatreg, Fatreg, where art thou?

- i just tell them it's illegal for them to sell a phone to me seeing as i am under 16! - then they just ask for me parents...etc etc....then i tell 'em to p**s off! and they normally hang up first

i don't want a new phone...i have like a 3g handset on pay as you talk - i don't use my phone enough to contemplate signing up for a contract anyway...and i love annoying sales-people...i'm really sorry if you are one of these people...and if i've done anything wrong...i'm sorry!!!!

Yeah, so much for "data protection act". It realy p1ss me off when I get these cold calls, however a few weeks ago there was a similar type of thread (cannot recall the original poster - too lazy to check My Posts) - with some interesting suggestions which I've started to use with funny results.
Maybe all us O2 contract holders should start a class action lawsuit sueing the crap out of O2 for compensation due to hurt feelings and all other pathetic injuries we sustained enduring these calls. I always start getting these calls when my contract comes up for renewal. How does these 3rd party cold callers know this as an example?
What makes it worse is that some of these salespeople are very persistent and cannot take no for an answer until you tell them to STFU and to FO and hang up.
...here's me getting wound uip just thinking about it...

It's very simple. Just register your phone-number (UK only) with the Telephone Preference Service. This effectively makes it unlawful for companies to make unsolicited direct marketing calls to your number. Once you have registered your number, companies are under legal obligation (Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003) to check that they do not telephone any registered numbers.
After registering, whenever I received an unsolicited call, I would ask to speak with the persons supervisor. I then informed them that my number was registered with the Telephone Preference Service, and asked them whether they would prefer to stop calling me or whether they would like me to pass their details on the the Office of Fair Trading or the DTI.
I now never get any unsolicited calls (well, I think I have had one this year, as opposed to a couple every month prior to registering my number).

Yeah I get that, too in the Netherlands. So I just wait for them to speak up for about 5-10 minutes in dutch. When they stoped talking I just say to them "Could you repeat all that in English" as I dont understand dutch, they usually hang up

Strange that i'm on pay as you go but i still get these kinda calls (n e ovas not on contract who get these unwanted sales people?).
I was thinking of messing with them as well, maybe sayin summin super ridiculous like 'yeh, in fact i work for O2- and i get 1,000,000 free txts and 1,000,000 free mins per month- beat that!... No? Well too bad then...' lol.
(or maybe i'll just give the above TPS service a try...
)
