Hi!
I'm one of those people who hate installing 300+ mbs of software/drivers which I'll probably never use. All I want to do is to be able to sync my Outlook contacts and meetings etc to my W810i and preferably use FMA or any similar software.
So my question is:
Is there a "cleaner" way of installing, let's say, only USB drivers etc and then still be able to connect and sync your phone? I really don't need all he SE's other software kits etc.
Thank you kindly!

Hi, Maybe simply synch PIM through Bluetooth.

I don't have BT, I simply need to use the USB-cable that came with my phone but don't want to install all the drivers.

I agree, Sony Ericsson force you to use their software which is a bit bloaty.
You could possibly try installing the PC Suite as normal, then make a note of the driver it uses to talk to the phone, make a copy of the necessary file(s) and then uninstall PC Suite.
When the software is installed, if you connect your phone via the USB cable, it should get recognised. Then go into Device Manager, USB controllers and you should see an entry something like ‘Sony Ericsson W810 Driver’ . Get the properties for this driver from the Driver Details and it should give some clue to the driver it is using which will be in Windows/System32/drivers.
When you have copied all the W810 files from C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\drivers and uninstalled the bloaty PC Suite, you should be able to connect the phone using the USB cable, when it comes up with the Found New Hardware wizard, you should simply need to point to one of the W810xxx.inf files. The trick will be in getting the correct .inf file as there appear to be several. Trial and error, or possibly read them as they are only text files.
By the way, I haven’t tried this personally.

Unlike Windose users, iSync on a Mac circumvents this. Bluetooth to phone and syncing is done. However, as this is not the possibility to do this in Windose, the PC Sync software would appear to be the only way as it provides a conduit to be able to speak to Outhouse, I mean Outlook. To be able to speak to an application, you need a piece of middleware and this is supplied by the PC Sync program.
BTW another reason to own a Mac.
