I have a problem all. my laptop starts and all fine, but the screen won't light up. I can barley see it, its not visable enough to use it. I'm not sure what's wrong, it was fine earlier. I have very important files on it also. any ideas? thanks!

looking at a mother board/graphics problem, could be the screen inverter whihc powers the backlight, or it could even be a lose wire either way its not a cheap problem to fix

Yeah as luke says, most probably the backlight has gone. Very common problem which usually entails fitting a whole new screen (easier than messing about with the backlight and associated parts).
If you need to back up stuff, you can plug your laptop into an ordinary PC monitor. One of the function keys will be used to toggle between the laptop's screen and the monitor. It's often Fn+F4 but it varies between manufacturers.

well, its an older computer. has XP on it, so im going to think about getting a new computer i guess. i got in around year 2000. so i think im due for an upgrade

okay, but im used to "right clicking" and all that, is it easy to get around in a mac?

you can get right clicking on a mac if you either use a external mouse or on the new laptops you can tap with both fingers at once and it acts as a double click.
As standard they don't have solitaire on them, but you can get it I believe along with others like sudku dashboard widgets, I even have a dancing homer widget lol
