Bookmark topic
Hi All,
just installed a free copy of xp media edition but ive got a major problem.
When the computer loads up, its gets to a screen with a plane blue backround. after around 15seconds, it restarts. this happens over and over and i cant get onto anything :s
Any ideas?
Cheers.

Just to clarify, you successfully installed media centre but now the PC boots to a blank blue screen and then reboots itself?
Or do you mean that the media centre setup application doesn't load when you try to install it?

yeh that'll be luke's responce
@brownlad - umm....is this a first time installation on the computer, or is it a re-install when media centre was on the computer before. if it is a first-time, then please say what the computer is e.g. homebuilt/pre-built etc. and if you built it then what mobo / mem / cpu you used etc. I know that certain combinations of mobo, mem + cpu don't happily work together (quite like your way) infact i've seen a computer that was a 1.8ghz machine having to be turned down to 1050mhz because it just wouldn't work.

@ Cyco - The installation was completed and got to the welcome screen but then restarted, since then it has been going to a blue screen and restarting over and over
@ Awave - There should be no compatability problems as i was using media edition before the clean install. Also i have not overclocked or stuff like that.
cheers people, thanks for the help

Is it just a blue screen? Any error messages?

Urgh, it often means that windows no longer likes one or more bits of your hardware because it's failing, usually memory and occasionally just about any other bit of a computer you can think of
I know it's strange that the PC can behave perfectly before the reinstall, but that's how it happens sometimes.
Maybe try the repair reinstall option first, then a full reinstall with full format one more time just to make sure it's not down to a disk reading error or something silly like that.
If it still won't go on, I'd start swapping memory chips first of all.
