Maybe it is a stoopid question but once you have setup the GPRS configuration for your home network, can you access GPRS while roaming abroad?

There is no technical reason why you shouldn't but not very many operators has contracts regarding roaming GPRS.
I've only heard of one example, with roaming GPRS between some operators here in scandinavia.

I use gprs both i scandinavia and USA. No, need to change the gprs settings. But more operators are changing to "local" dns-servers on their gprs network, so that they can't be accessed outside the home-network. Telenor just did this in Norway. dns: 010....

Here in Norway, the operator NetCom provides GPRS-roaming in the Scandinavia, so technicaly it's no problem.

I'm on Orange GPRS here in the UK. Can I get GPRS in Malaysia when I go there next week? I will be in Sungai Petani for any Malaysians that might be round there. That's about an hour's drive north from Penang/Butterworth. If it's possible, will it be 'roamed' from Orange at an extortionate price or will I get it at local rates by one of their roaming partners if they have one?

My UK Vodafone SIM card lets me GPRS roam in many European countries that I visit without any changes required as long as I am conected to the vodafone company of that country (i.e. D2 in Germany etc).

I depends on the roaming agreement between operators. My operator Smart Communications in the Philippines allows GPRS roaming with M1 in Singapore, for example.

Well my network actually don't provide GPRS roaming so I've asked them why and the answer was : because of different billing methods. So for example here we get packages of 60, 130, or 200MB/month for 20, 40 or 60$ while other networks would bill u for the amount of kb u would use. This way, if am roaming & using GPRS, the other network won't benefit from me.

I believe that Vodafone has an international roaming rate of 3c a kilobyte, minimum session time of 75kbs. Not 100% sure of it though
