Hi all have just taken out a T-Mobile Web N Walk contract that gives unlimited e-mail and web browsing, now in their bumph they say you are prohibited from certain usage such as VOIP, Peer -Peer sharing, connecting to a Laptop as a modem and a few other things. My question is how can they possibly know you are using it as a modem rather than surfing on the phone other than by the amount of time you are on line possibly. Any ideas any one as to if this is possible or is this just scare tactics to try and cap over usage?

for reference,
here is the page with those terms and conditions you mention.
I recently trialled their web'n'walk pro data card which also offers 3g and wifi (though my laptop already has wifi) and found it somewhat wanting when on the move such as in a train.
However, I did note the terms and conditions you mention for the standard web'n'walk and the only conclusion I could come to was the commonality of hight volume of data flow for those items listed as exclusions.
Having said that, a few years ago in my time working in Germany I used a prepaid card (Loop - now integrated with O2) and they had a different charge when you connected to dialup using data (which I did from my laptop though my phone) compared to a normal phone call. I never understood how they could tell as it was not their data service I was connecting to, so I guess some of these things are possible

Think about it mate-who on earth is gonna hit the 2gb fair use limit when only using a handset. If your using it as a modem for your pc or laptop, then your gonna go way over-not hard to detect! I would like to add, the data card is also HSPDA ready for launch in September-so broadband here we come!

When my broadband connection was down for a week. I connected my w810i with my desktop computer using the w810i as a modem. I called t-mobile and got them to activate web and walk for me. I did ask them, if I can use my phone to connect to the computer as a modem, for internet connection, using the web n walk service. I got advised I could do that.
So in answer to your question, i don't see any harm in you, using it, as long as you stick to 2 gig allowance.

I got the T-mobile 3G HSDPA ready card - which is good value. The Connection s/w is a bit naff, does not work with IE7 (beta 2). Also on the normal mobile tariff you can add web'n'walk for only UKP7.50 per month! A real bargain.

I was told the normal web'n'walk 'add on' for mobile phones is only GPRS unfortunately and you cant access 3g for that cheap price. not sure how true that was.
I returned my 3g data card but they told me I could keep the 1 year free t-mobile hotspot wifi access... so I am!

Wow - it is a good deal. I have a T-mobile 3G SIM so I assume I am using 3G as well as GPRS for my normal mobile data usage. When I get my M600 I will test it. My HTC Universal is collecting dust as it annoys me so much!

If your gonna use your phone as a modem alot, don't go for the 7.50 version, go for the web n walk pro bundle at 10quid, as this is what it designed for-no instant messagin, VOIP or peer to peer sharing aloud though! For the person that was told 3g isn't included within web n walk, it is-one of the main reasons they brought it out!

Hi strangely the 2gig limit only appears on the professional service not the Web N Walk, as i have moved over to the dark side a N70 i can use YahooGo which allows me to upload and download pics from my phone to a photo album , e-mail, and web surfing all unlimited. I do not have braodband avaliable via NTL yet where i live so use a wi-fi connection to my next door neighbours with his permission of course but this is less than reliable so my reason for this soloution, but i just can't understand what difference it makes if i use my phone or my laptop. Surly the bandwidth and data useage must be the same and if they are how is it possible for T-Mobile to know what i am useing. One last thing that i do find incredible i still have 4months left on my Virgin contract and as just sold my P910i really wanted to be able to use this sim as well as the T-Mobile one spoke to customer services as have only had the phone for 4 days and guess what £15 charge and unlock code is on its way now that i do think is very cool and what i call service also CPW wanted £80 for this package by buying direct phone was free as is Web N Walk for the first 3 months. According to CPW when i was trying to get them to get this deal they are currently connecting more people to T-Mobile than any other network.

Apparently, recent figures show that some 500,000 new contract connections where made in April-May this year, of which 275,000 of which was to a t-mobile flext package! I can only see this rise with web n walk! My only concerne is whether the network will be able to core with the huge increase in data traffic-but guess they probably thought of that already! Ha
