i bought a k750i on ebay about two months ago, and it was working perfectly for about 3 weeks. then, one day i picked it up, and the backlight wouldn't come on. the screen itself worked, but there was no backlight. i reset the phone, and the backlight flickered on for a second, but then went off again. since then, it hasn't worked. It wasn't used in any adverse conditions, and upon opening the phone to check connections, did not appear to have any internal damage.

I replaced the LCD on the phone thinking this was the problem, but after I did, the problem remained exactly the same.

I posted about this problem in another forum, and I was given two different suggestions:

1. replace the LED driver, apparently also known as the dcdc converter. I have no idea where I would get my hands on this part, nor am I qualified to install it. i couldn't get any other information from the members on that board.

2. solder a connection between two extremely small parts on the main board by the LCD connector. this seems like a rather shoddy fix, and again, one I am not qualified to do myself.

I am thinking at this point that I need to have the phone worked on by a professional. Though I haven't 'modified' the phone in any way, I have opened the case. Will a service center know that the case of the phone has been opened? If so, does anyone here have experience in having warranty service denied because of a previously opened case?

Also, if anyone could recommend a service center in the US (or has any other input into this problem), I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for reading!

Where i live, the warrenty gets viod if you open the case. They will notice it if there are clear markings that it has been opened.

From my own experience, I have found that most back light problems are moisture damage related. I realise you have taken care of the phone but whos to say the ebay lister did the same. The problem with moisture is that the damage can either take seconds to appear of weeks! This might explain why it worked for a short period after you bought it!

Try bringing it to the centre. Don't say it was opened and ask them to take a look and def don't try soldering ANYTHING yourself:)

thanks for the replies.. there are indeed some marks around the casing from opening. do you think replacing the housing with a new one from ebay will make it adequetly 'unopened'?

i'm thinking that paying for a repair to the main board will be way more expensive than a new housing.
