It's called hyperbole, now stop being smart with us!
Women don't play in the football world cup, yet aren't they world citizens?
Besides that, the World Series has existed longer than the World Cup, since the 1850s. At that time a baseball championship across a country as big as America with no air travel in addition to Canada! For the 1850s, this wasnt bad!
The term stuck because it became an American tradition, but when it was first created any country was allowed to participate in the events as long as they could formulate a working league within the MLB. In the States, for example, there is the American League and the National League.
Upon that, there are a lot of international citizens playing in the World Series. The yankees pitcher is Taiwanese for example.
"At the time the term was first used, baseball at the major league level was only played in the United States. While some would contend that there is no reason to believe that the World Series winner is a significantly better team than any club team outside Major League Baseball, no challenges have been made by other leagues. Moreover, virtually all of the best international players — from the Pacific Rim, Latin America, the Caribbean, and elsewhere — play on Major League rosters, with the notable exception of Cuban nationals."

Old, very tired joke. Try coming up with something original? I hope you realise a LARGE portion of our population are still 1st or 2nd generation immigrants, meaning that we are one of the most worldly countries in the world. Those who come out of the public school system are not very adept at geography, but then again the UK has the same problem. If you consider the USA is about as big as Europe, I'm sure the average US public school student can name more states than the average UK student can name countries in Europe, and they both will probably name the same amount of countries outside their respective continents.
Perhaps if you would keep your mouth shut more often and decided to learn a bit more about the country you so so blindly direct anti-american propaganda to, you would avoid puting your foot in your mouth.
If you want to pretend that the UK is any better than the US I'd like to point out that most of the current wars going in the world are rooted in the UKs intereference in World Politics. That goes for the rest of Europe. If the French didn't drain the colonies for all they were worth then leave the citizens to die in the midst of a power void, those colonies would be much better off. If the UK government had not interefered in the Middle-East following WWI and WWII, there would be no Israel, no Iraq, the countries and people who were denied their freedom while under British Mandate.
Please don't judge us, one war (i speak of the general "War on Terror" which includes Iraq and Afghanistan) with at least an iota of moral is better than hundreds lacking any morals whatsoever.

There's a difference between gender and recognition of other countries.
I'm sure women are worldly too
