Right on the apple site under their refurbished products I have found a macbook pro with the following specs
15.4-inch widescreen display
1440 x 900 resolution
2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
1GB (single SODIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
100GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
4x SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory
One FireWire 400 and two USB 2.0 ports
its priced at £1156.30, using various discounts I can get it down to £914.13! Which is mighty close to half its original price
Now I originally wanted to buy one just before uni, but this is a bitchin offer, ive never seen one so good, the price is great but its only for a limited time and I dont know when that time ends.
Sould I buy it now or not? I really can't decide I have the money to, but theres so many things to consider, please help asap (pref by 5pm)

first things first - do you need it now coz not being funny mate, there will be deals about when you go to uni...
secondly- will its spec be completely rubish in 6 months time (or when you go to uni)
The point above points are ment to help ya, in the hope others will offer their opinions too as i dont kow alot about mac's.
As far as i can see though it seems like a cracking deal

If this was a PC (windows based) id definatly say wait with the launch of vista so near but as its a mac with different O/S, this doesnt really matter...

I would buy it.
If it turned out it wasn't what you wanted, I'm sure you could sell it again (if not for a profit)
Those specs are great. If you get get it up to 2gb (100pounds at Macsales)
you could sell the 1gb ram anywhere for at least 50 pounds.
Mac's love ram (that doesn't mean they use alot though)
I'd take the plunge.
It's specs are more than enough for any pc!
edit: that price is around the highest spec macbook (which is around 1000 I believe) and that macbook pro has higher specs.
Reason it's cheaper is also because 2ghz is last months spec I believe (it's now 2.1 I think)
My logic is, with technology, you can't wait. You'll be waiting forever. Technology doesn't stop to make the people happy.
I'd take it, if you get wind of more concrete evidence of a new one, sell it fast.

well I dont really need it now, but ive wanted one since january or whenever they were released and although this particualr offer is on right now I don't now if there will be a better one in say a month, its just do bloody tempteing.
the release of the new os wont bother me as I can always get that kind of thing, and harware boosts are only predicted a small boost although apple go craxy with their updates sometimes, but they will probally have a new model out after a few months no matter when I buy it.
The speed and spec are both above the one I was initially going to get and for less.
I already sell the ram for these and a original chip would sell very well indeed.

That sounds like a really good deal. According to the
Buyers Guide at MacRumors the MacBook Pro is in 'mid-life'. Meaning its approximately half way between the last model being released and the next one being released. So... not a bad time to buy.
The thing to consider is this:
Will this Mac do all you want it to do?
Is it fast enough for your current and future needs?
No doubt in the 2nd-half of this year Apple will release faster models, but they don't increase speed hugely - probably 0.5 - 1.0 Ghz or so. This speed bump wouldn't make a massive difference and you'd end up paying full-price for the latest model.
Would you be prepared to pay full-price in a few months just for the latest model?

in that case it seems like a cracking lil offer mate... also as amnesia pointed out, you probably will be able to sell it for either the same price or more if you decide it was a bad move when it arrives

some very good points.
yes if I didnt want it in say the 1st month I could probally sell for about £1100 based on ebay prices, althoguh I wouldnt want to sell it on as the reson I can get it so cheap is because of a favor from a friend which removes 17.5% of the price lol
the mac is much faster then my current one and does everything I would want to do, including that I for sea in the future, it even has enough hd space (I was originally planning on upgrading the hd)
