I've recently got a w900i which I'm generally quite happy with. However i've having some concerns over the battery life. The first time I charged the phone it lasted just under a week. After putting in a 2GB memory card (about 250MB used) the battery like seems to have decreased substantially. I was wondering whether this card had anything to do with it, although I can't see why it would have an effect (unless the phone was badly programmed and checking the memory often or something).
I guess the test is to remove the card and see how it performs, which I will do, but I was just wondering incase it was a well knwon effect.

It's certainly not a well known fact, so it will be interesting to hear the outcome of your experiment!
In theory, it should have very little effect on battery life at all since the current drawn when accessing a memory card is minute, regardless of it's size. Also, the card should not be drawing current at all times since it's non-volatile; the whole idea is that it can store data without a constant supply of electricity.
Maybe you have a faulty card rather than a faulty phone?

Errrrr..... No it doesn't! Not significantly at least, it certainly shouldn't be very noticible.
If I run my P910 with a 1Gb card in it, the battery life is exactly the same as when I run it with the default 32Mb card!

Any ideas? is it Sony or the card size?

I don't think it's sony, My 1Gb card is sony and the 32Mb is sandisk. As I said, no difference in battery life.
I've had a quick google and found pretty much what I've already said. These types of cards do not require a continuous current and as such should not cause noticible effects in battery life.
I'll keep looking though and post back if I find anything to the contrary.
EDIT: Right, one guy on Expansys forum reckons that his battery life was reduced when using a 4Gb card in his ipaq. He claimed that more power must be used when accessing a larger card but again, loads of other people claimed to have noticed no difference at all!

You have a FAKE memory stick. where did you buy it from? ebay?!! i had one too and it drained the battery life twice or 3 times as normal. Get a refund!!!!
