Do you pay for your Hotmail and Yahoo accounts?
If not, that might be why you can't get POP3 access.
I might be wrong (sorry if I am) but niether of these sites allow POP access unless your paying a monthly subscription. You must go to your inbox via their web page, thus viewing all their adverts along the way...
This may have changed now but it was certainly the case in the past.
You may also need to change your Voda GPRS access point from secure to unsecure but I'm not sure what that Voda uk address is.

You should call those sites and check on their latest policies.

Can't help on the Vodafone issue (I am on PayAsYouGo O2), but if it helps I have an Webmail account I signed up for on O2 and then have setup auto forwarding from my main Email accounts to the O2 one, and I get TXT alert from O2 when mail arrives. I can then download using the Email setup on the phone to download just the headers (keeps cost & time down !) to see who/what they are about.
If I want to read the full Email, I just download it on demand etc.
This approach seems to work quite well and I am in two minds whether or not Exchange Push Email would work any better ?
The delays are only minimal and seems to offer me a bit of flexability.

@callstrum:
Microsoft have this policy (of sorts) that you can only download mail if you have had an active mail account with them for a certain period of time. Also, the account must be active and be used for private and personal mail. - i.e not commercial. I have had my account since they have first started with e-mail accounts and have a @msn dot com suffix. I can also download my mail to Outlook and access it on my mobile phone.
