I am not familiar in all this P2P and bit torrent technology background.

This few weeks I have been facing a HUGGEEEE problem in my office's internet speed....my connection to any external server or web portal have been slow down to 14.4kbps speed...even login in to Esato is a difficult task in office.

oh ya...i login sometimes when i am free.

then I realise we have a trainee who have been using the PC given to him for bit torrent download

I found in wikipedia or most other search engine result tht this tech is meant to help reduce bandwidth...but does this only mean for huge file size which is in DVD quality....but does anyone know whether such technology can actually cause problem to a network which have a single internet gateway where a few users is sharing that single gateway?

This is what I suspect...when tht fella using his bit torrent client...the software try to grab the most bandwidth in the internal network and slowing everyone down since the gateway is only concentrated on his work.

I really want to know coz I need to inform some of the guys here to do all their private stuff after work coz it is killing me as I need to login to external server at work.

bit torrent does indeed hog bandwidth.
Sometimes, even if the torrent is on, even if the downloads are paused, it still slows the net down because it 'reservers' ports. (some of which are required for opening multiple pages or simultaneous downloads).

I'd say he could be able to make downloads that are direct but to forget about bit torrent or any file downloading software.

for sure he is hogging bandwidth...

i see it on my net easily. if im dling a dvd of say 3.4 gb and ive got enough seeds it can max out my net connection and not let me open any pages at all....

either tell him to stop or get work to upgrade the net package!!
