First of all, newbie here.

I got W810i from HK like a month ago, there are few bugs here and there. so I am thinking about trying the new firmware.

But since I live in US and using cingular service. and the phone is unlock and unbrand. and I want to keep it that way, will updating the firmware lock my phone?

I have a CXC1250318 R4CE012 000000

please help, thanks in advance

Damn good question. I would guess, and this is a guess that it should not matter considering the phone is unlocked and unbranded. I have tried to do an update on my phone (gifted while in Kuwait) and it did not brand or anything like that. However, the experts usually show up and can give you more info.

no, it won't lock your phone.

i'm on the same boat, btw. i live in the US and am on Cingular. my w810 was purchased off of eBay and was shipped from Hong Kong. used SEUS about a month or so ago. all the update did was, surprise - update my FW and get rid of most of the bugs.

updating firmware has never had anything to do with locks on the phone so you can be sure you're phone won't get locked. These are 2 completely separate entities.

also, the fact that you choose to use your sim free unbranded phone on a network that happens to brand that phone does not affect the firmware that SEUS chooses for the update.

Indeed you actually should remove your sim card during the update process so the update service wouldn't know what network you connect to anyway
