Hardware fault, 100%

Could be caused by any part of the computer that you can think of, from the floppy drive right down to the motherboard itself, or even the power supply

You really need to get it looked at by a professional because unless you have diagnostic equipment and lots of different parts that are known to be working, it's a difficult job unless you get lucky!

I'd start by unplugging everything that's unnecessary, like the floppy drive, all external hardware such as printers etc. and then move on to swapping out the memory followed by the hard drive

Might sound funny...but overheating could be a cause.. I had a similar issue when i was tryin to reinstall xp it always threw errors (all different errors) saying that the setup could not complete. I removed all usb devices, opened up the computer cover and tried the reinstall....and it worked!

Yup, that's certainly a possibility too

Had the same problem, added more fans, and better fans but it still would overheat so i just left the cover open and put a normal household fan next to it works perfectly.

@P.I.M.P

Try removing all memory modules (if you have more than 1) apart from one and try each one seperately. If that doesn't work then i would have it looked at professionally because its hard work if you want to check each other hardware yourself.
