Is it normal that during a Java application the GPRS session stays active the whole time you're playing with the Java application that needs the GPRS? Even when that Java application does not need the GPRS for more then 5 minutes.

I'm using Wayfinder with mine Z530. But mine operator is charging for every minute mine GPRS session is active. It seems that I can not configure to close the GPRS session. Is this normal? Or is there another way?
Wayfinder needs the GPRS to download a GPS route. But once you have the route the gprs session can be closed.

Unfortunatly thats dependent on the programme. Where I live, its cheaper if you just stay connected as my GPRS is not time dependent.
I'd kill to have a messenger application that'll stay connected until i close it

It's quite weird that a network is billing it's customers for time spent online while the practice with GPRS has been to charge customers for the amount of data downloaded.

This is indeed weird. It's an operator in Belgium:

From 23 May, Mobile Internet will be billed by the minute. The rate will be € 0.1815 per minute (VAT incl).

Nothing to do...except switching from operator.
