Hey everyone. I was looking to buy the m600i but was concerned about the "two-letter" QWERTY keypad. I have never used a keypad like this and I text message a lot and I was wondering if anyone uses this type of keypad and is able to type on it with one hand. Also, after practice of course, is it possible to type as fast as we can with the regular keypad using T9? I text a lot using one hand while driving and stuff...Please tell me how good or bad an idea it is for me to get the m600i. I love the other features of this phone. Thanks in advance.

The keyboard is MUCH better than i though it would be, i can type with one hand with ease, i think (with a bit of practice) you can type fairly quickly at the speed of predictive txt or faster...

In that case I suggest, you don't get a phone. That has to be one of the stupidest/dangerous things you could do. Are you trying to kill yourslef and others?

It does seem to take a while to get used to typing though. Expect a learning curve. AND DON"T TEXT AND DRIVE!!!

The keypad has a very nice tactile feel to it and feels good to press. While the rocker keys took a little getting used to, and initially felt a little awkward, I pleased to say that i can now type reasonably fast, as fast if not faster than i used to text. I'm actually very happy with how the keypad turned out.

I have an interesting point to explain about the keypad:
The logic of the keypad is a dream. If you press Q, and while Q is depressed, also press W, the W key does not register. Thus, it's not necessary to push -only- the Q; you can depress both sides of the rocker-switch, but so long as Q is pressed first, only Q will be entered.
Likewise, if you press W, and just afterwards acidentally depress E (on the next key, adjacent), E does not register so long as W is depressed. I hope this is clear enough to visualize.
This said, it isn't necessary to use your fingernails, nor even the very tip of your finger/thumb. I've found it's quite easy to just plunge the key with the pad of my thumb, and as long as my aim's good and the intended character is pressed first, then that is the only one which is entered. It's really conducive to speedy entry.
Way to go SE; I'm very glad this aspect of the keypad was well thought-out. I don't think my P910 worked with the same type of logic, but I'd imagine on the P990, it will be the same entry logic.

WOW! Thank you for all the great replies guys. And Aldrew, I understand your concern but I was so used to the T9 on the regular keypad, that I can type evn without looking at my phone. I'm sure a lot of other people are able to do that too....no biggie...but with all these great replies, I think I'm going to go ahead and get the m600i. I'll probably learn fast, and I won't text and drive for the first 6 months at least.
Thanks guys.

i'm more comfortable with a T9 keypad as well, i'm having just a bit of difficulty getting used to the M600 keys. I have to look at the keys everytime I type unlike with the T9 even though I have had a bit of practice.

adhussain...I think we cannot compare the T9 to the suretype in m600 directly. I have been using T9 for over 5 years now, and i'm sure you have too, so if you want to compare the two, we have to use the Suretype keyboard of m600 for 5 years at least to be totally fair and say which is better. Anyways,...I have ordered my m600i and I am waiting for it to arrive. i guess I too will take some time to get used to the new keyboard. I hope its not too much of a barrier, as all the other functionalities are great for me.

Hey guys, I only got my m600 yesterday and I'm already loving it!! You guys were right about the keypad....its definitely good...just taking a little getting used to, but i'm already pretty fast at it (not while driving though

).
Just a couple of questions for the m600 users....have you had any trouble with the email? For me, the email doesn't seem to be working properly. When I first start the phone, and i get&send, it works fine, but after a while, even though I have email on the server, it says send receive complete and doesn't get my new mail. Anyone found any good free substitutes? maybe push email?
Thanks in advance!
