I see you are using a nokia. Change the network provider to one which offers Edge ! Is basically same as the outdated gprs - only 5-6 x faster :)

if you plan using your current phone,i don't think it is posible (although here in Ro orange says on their site,if you want faster internet then put your APN as "speed" instead of "internet").If your phone supports EDGE then you can switch on it although EDGE isn't available everywhere, mainly in big cities not in the country side or small cities. And the third way would be to buy a phone that has GPRS class 32 (every thing bigger than class 10) and also your provider must have the posibility to give you faster GPRS.

Shivam- in so far as I know, there might not be any S/w per se. What @bugsiiy sez is rite too.. Infact with Providers like Airtel etc (with large customers than network can handle at times) even in Cosmo Cities (with yuppies like us) speeds may get hampered as per load factor.. Try tweaking the settings as sum1 suggested or the legal hacks. Some of the 'Free GPRS on XYZee network' threads have such info fr upp.ing the ante on deez suckers (Read: network Providers)

Ans1- Yes ... Ans2- Am not sure how, but it does.. Like with Orange (Hutch) India- change mode from 'Wap' to 'HTML' and Enabling Proxy and setting Port as '9401' does make quiet a difference.. Large file downloads for one.. And I mean it, as I did download a 17-18 MB Cisco demo of 'NETSIM'
