Hi. i got my k800i on '3' at the weekend. seems a really nice phone and the camera is fantastic.

it didn't come with a memory card - i presume it wasn't meant to?

i was surprised to find that even without a memory card i could still use it to transfer files to my mac! : )

one issue i'm unsure about though is the '3' branding - it doesn't seem too bad on the phone and menus etc, but using the web browser seems pretty difficult - it seems i can only go to websites that are recommended by '3' or something

what's all that about?

for example, if i 'enter address' www.google.com it either does nothing, or goes to a '3' screen telling me they recommend certain websites etc

can't i go wherever I want!?

i've never been on '3' before

help!

so it seems 3 have removed the 'update service' too

is there anything else i'm missing out on by being on 3?

some of there stuff is great - like being able to see my minutes/texts usage instantly on planet 3, but not being able to look at other websites is a bit rubbish

Thats called the walled garden, that operators have.

They only allow links to approved wapsites - or sites they are partnering with.

Voda do the same.

A bit annoying but if you debrand your phone then the warranty goes - remember that.

I don't want to mess up the warranty

Guess I'm not that bothered really - will save me money I suppose!

bit annoying not being able to use the update service though. I assume that would be used for bug fixes and things like that??

Can you do debranding for the k800i yet? If so where... and also once it is dont, does it make it act as if you bought a sim free phone, and when you do sony ericssons update service, will it update with unbranded firmware?

Is there anyway to get rid of that annoying banner at the bottom of the screen as well? Only just got the phone so havent had a chance to have a proper look at it yet...

are you on 3 too?

you can get rid of that no problem - its in settings / general / instant viewer / deactivate

I've set my 'joystick up' shortcut to that so i can switch it on or off easily, as sometimes it can be handy - to see your account useage for example

Yeah I am. Thank god!!! Still at work so havent managed to play with it properly. Prob would've been going back if it werent for that. A lot happier with my new toy now, cheers

Oh yeah, re: ur original post, i tried going to google and ladroke's sites and all it said was that to use the internet it will cost u £2 per MB or u can buy a bundle for £5 per month, didnt say anything about certain sites being restricted. Had u tried visiting them after purchasing a bundle or something then? Cause if i pay the £5 and can only access a limited amount of sites i wont be pleased.

i've gone for the £2.50 option (up to 5mb)

haven't had the time to experiment with many other websites yet so i can't say for sure

That's what i was gonna go for, maybe go for the £5 one if i go over the limit. But does it seem to be working ok for the sites u've tried now?
