from a laptop using the data cable?
i ask because i left my charger in leeds and have come down to london for three months and my battery died over night even though it was plugged into my laptop.
and now i cant get it to switch on to charge
i can get it on for a minute when its plugged in but it starts charging then switches itself off! so annoying

Yes, it should do, could there be another fault with the phone?
Try taking the battery out, reinserting it then try charging it, see if that makes any difference.

try downloading the usb signed drivers for your w800? and install it, dont need anymore software just the signed driver. and it will recognise the phone, no harm in trying,
